Thought about joining a few times. If I still had my IQ results from HS, I probably would. Just too much trouble otherwise. ________________

I've never known or had any interest in my IQ... *****

I have no idea what mine is, either.

I am supposedly eligible for MENSA based on some standardized tests I have taken, but I really don't know much about them, so have never really been that interested. ******************************************************

FWIW, there is a absolute correlation between certain intellectual aptitude tests and IQ results. The aptitude tests, crorrelated are, for example, SAT as given before 2001, GRE, GMAT, LSAT, certain military aptitude exams. Mensa accepts these exams as proof of IQ. taraswizard

I don't remember the exact scores, but I was National Merit Scholarship finalist back when I was a senior in high school back in the early 80s. I don't think that has ever done me a bit of good in the real world, though. ******************************************************

Danlo wrote Quote:I got a 760 on my verbal SAT and a 580 on the math, If that means anything... YMMV, I do not how those particular correlations equate themselves. If your wanting to know, I'm sure that the Mensa homesite www.mensa.org and www.usmensa.org would have the information (first link is definite, not sure if second one is correct).

IME Regarding the group as whole, it is almost entirely a social organization, that organizes local parties, events and get-to-gethers. And very often show little differences from a neighborhood block party. The local groups, which turn out to the core essential element of Mensa, IME are very cliquish and insular; for example, the Chicago political dictum, "we don't want anyone that nobody didn't send" seems to greatly apply. taraswizard

I refuse to join any club that uses double negatives in their dictums. ________________

I will explain my last message, maybe it's obscure if you know nothing about Chicago politics (however, I heard it before I moved to Chicago area in 1992). The phrase 'we don't want nobody that nobody didn't send' was used by one of the ward bosses in the Richard J. Daley era, because some guy had been sent by the downtown hdqts to come down and work in the ward. However, no one had told the ward bosses this guy was coming nor could he tell them who had sent him there in the first place; FWIW, the Chicago machine was so xenophobic in those days that outsiders or percieved outsiders were definitely not welcome and could be percieved as a threat to their power heirarchy.

The phrase does not have anything to do with American Mensa directly, just being offer as a comparison and simile. taraswizard

There's a decent test on the Mensa site if you want to find out (it will just tell you if you probably should or should not try to join). ________________
