Dune, by Frank Herbert (The thought of doing the whole series is terrifying, but the original book would be awesome.)
The Glass Bead Game, by Hermann Hesse
The Neverness series, by... ummm... damn, it's on the tip of my tongue.
I think all of these are filled with extraordinary substance, and would be incredible to go into in such depth. ____________ Highdrake's mastery of spells and sorcery was not much greater than his pupil's, but he had clear in his mind the idea of something very much greater, the wholeness of knowledge.
