The AOL users who are complaining have themselves to blame.
I had a site on Hometown, and received notice of it being shut down 90 days before it happened so if I had wanted I could relocate it elsewhere.

I know that wasn't the intent of your post. And I agree word of the Hangar needs to spread. But the site owners needed to be more on top of things. They had plenty of notice, if they kept their email address current with their board registration.

Well the comments were probably made by people who didn't get the notification or were too stupid to move or copy or download their sites-if Seekers disappearance is just on temporary hold, they have been since November. I have never used AOL, my Mom did on a dial up and it took for freaking ever...

I can't find the Hangar anywhere on Yahoo! And it's still 12 pages or so back on Google...does anyone know any tricks on getting currently listed on search engines, or do we have to change our name to David Zindell or Neverness to get recognition? David Zindell at Ahira's Hangar? ack...

This is out of my league, but you have to do what you think is necessary. Adding Zindell's name may help...or not.

Yeah, since AOL went to being a free service they got rid of AOL Hometwon, AOL Journals )blogs), and at the end of this month, they are getting rid of the AOL Photo Service.

As Menolly said, they did give the people who had thsoe website on AOL Hometown and those blogs at AOL Journals plenty of time to relocate.

For the journals they had a link to transfer your blog in its entirety to another free service.

For the webpages, though, they only said to store what was on it using a software they linked to, and to find your own new host.

Hopefully, the people running the old Zindell page on AOL saved their info, and will someday resurrect it with another server.

As to getting the Hangar to move forward in Google listings, you must put up links to it everywhere on the web. Anyone who has an unused (or used) blog or website should link to it. Supposedly the more links Yahoo and Google can find through their bots, the higher they rank a website in their search engines.

I did that before---don't know if I can do it again...

Yeah...it's pretty confusing to try and do it deliberately...

I did find a Zindell group on Facebook this morning.

And this version of the Hangar does come up first in google rankings now.

That rocks. Companies pay big bucks to try and achieve a ranking like that.
