Ahira's Hangar

Back to the fireflies, they are just these very plain brown medium sized flying bugs. But in the evening and at night, they become enchanting when they start hovering about and flashing their lights. They do not sting or bite, and are easy to catch. You can hold them in your hands, and let them crawl on your arms, with no harm to either you or them.

I have caught them many times at community fireworks parties and other such events, to teach small children that not all insects are dangerous. Besides, the kids love to hold them.

Imagine a yard filled with little Tinkerbell lights floating and bobbing about.

That is my yard at night in the late spring and early summer.

(And the cats love to chase them if any make it indoors. But that is another story. )

The weather here is just insane...it's been storming and flooding for the last 32 hours...and this is a summer rainfall area. Local municipalities have declared disasters, people losing homes in floods, all that sort of thing. Global Climate Change, here we come.

Yeah, we're all fine, just lots of water. Much worse in other neaby areas...more than 1,000 people lost their homes, 8 dead last I heard, general chaos.
