Well, no I certainly did nothing to harm him.
He is in the hospital (and on oxygen and a variety of breathing treatments) from a bad asthma attack.
I feel so bad about the whole situation because he was/is my friend.
We've been to each other's houses plenty of times and been on double dates to jazz concerts - me and my husband and he and the woman he was dating. When my father died he called the funeral home down in Tennessee to try to give them his VISA number to order pizzas for me and my family. It did not work, but he tried. When the farm stand by his house has sweet corn, he gets sacks of corn for me, because he knows how much I like the corn from that farm. I give him fruit from the orchard across the road because he likes the fresh fruit. We cook meals for each other and have stood by each other through thick and thin during problems at work or during problems in our personal lives. We exchange plants and baby trees from each other's yards and gardens. We exchange gifts on birthdays and Christmas. A couple of Christmases ago he gave me his varsity wrestling pin from high school (which was a long time ago for him since he is nearly fifty) and teased me about being the only girl he has ever pinned. My sons, wrestlers both, got the biggest kick out of that! We make up silly songs and sing them at the top of our lungs and dance to Motown and complain about Detroit sports teams together.
This man is my friend. Not just a coworker. He is a friend.
That is why this thing is freaking me out so much.
If it was just another person I worked with and had nothing to do with outside of work, I would turn them in to department/hospital administration without a second thought.
But this is a friend.
