It has its followers, there are scrapbooking stores around...it was something of a fad a couple years back IIRC.

Personally, I'm just not a photo person...if it wasn't for the GF, I wouldn't have any at all. The first time I lived in London, (before the GF and I got together), I came back after a year without a single picture.

Lordy, Av! Don't let Matrixman hear you say that!

I'm like Av.
Tons of pictures of me as a kid via my Daddy.
But as an adult, not much. Mostly those taken by Watchers at 'fests.

Poor Beorn has very few pictures of him at all.
We don't even purchase the school ones, usually...

I go by fits and starts with taking pictures. Usually my most concentrated photography efforts are on vacation, tho -- hence the scrapbooks.

The most interesting thing I did today was -- well, it was kinda done for me. My novella is for sale at Calderwood Books.

And I'm packing to move a week from today, which coincidentally is my last day of sabbatical. :( Hired the movers yesterday.

Congrats on the novella going up, ali!
I read the excerpt. Looks fascinating!

Thanks, Menolly! :)

Eventually there will be a way to buy a dead-tree version (Joy's using Lulu). Which, btw, you can now do for Xar's books. I've half a mind to buy dead-tree versions of his books so that if he ever comes back to the States, I can have him sign them. ;)

The links are under the individual book listings on her website.

Oh, and MW -- it's very cool that you have LOTR on blu-ray! :) I haven't shelled out yet for a blu-ray player....

Well, we all have our individual priorities. I'm just milking my old CRT HDTV monitor for all its worth.

Congrats on your novella, ali! 8)

I briefly looked at a demo Sony e-book reader when I was out shopping for LOTR.
Text was sharp, and the background was easy on my eyes. Still too pricey for my taste, but bring it down to the cost of a Sony MP3 Walkman (around $100) and I might have more interest.

Nah, gimme a paper book every time. I know...they don't last forever. But I still like 'em, and they'll probably outlast me.

Heh heh...I've had some automatic umbrella accidents myself in the past, but none that resulted in bodily assault like you experienced.
And this gives me the opportunity to mention that the best auto umbrella I've used (and am still using) is a totes™ model. I've had it for a number of years now and it has withstood gusting winds and severe downpours in fine form. Before, I went through an unlucky streak with umbrellas: either I lost them or they would fall apart after just a few times in the wind. But I'm happy with my totes. 8)

Yes, the Sony Reader is an attractive thing, if I don't say so myself.
I'm still strongly attached to the feel and smell of books. That is something an electronic device can't reproduce. But I guess what ultimately matters is the literary content, not whatever media it happens to be on. This is the irony: I say I love books, yet I rarely sit down to read them these days. And over the last ten years, most of my concentrated reading activity has been on the internet.
It would be so wild if my book collection (modest as it is) could be "ripped" just as MP3 files are from CD's. But obviously you can't just feed a book into your computer and out spits a PDF file or whatever. But hey, I can dream.
