Sorry you didn't get the job...guess you'll have to put up with the DC cockroach--er, crowd I mean--a little longer.
(No offense intended to any members of the arthropod family residing in Washington.)

Massive plastic cockroach, eh? Now if that's not a conversation starter, I don't know what is!

ali, you need to apply for a job in New Mexico where the state has, if I'm not mistaken, the highest per cap lawyers in the US. :P

Thanks, everybody. And yeah, Duchess, that was my reaction as well. :( I'm trying to stay upbeat -- hey, maybe the Universe has an even better job in store for me! -- but, well, yeah.

Danlo, if my ex-mother-in-law didn't live in Albuquerque, I would consider moving to your fair city. When I was there with y'all a couple of years ago, it was the first time in *years* that my sinuses were absolutely clear. It was a freakin' miracle! I figure the effect would last for at least a couple of years 'til I got sensitized to something there, but oh, what a marvelous couple of years it would be!

Bought moving boxes today. Which is not nearly as interesting as dyeing one's mohawk purple, I will grant you that.

 The biggest box was a dish barrel. Nothing too exotic.

Today's most interesting achievement was nearly finishing the Hawaii scrapbook. It would be done already, except that I decided to put in info on all my travels -- "Two weeks. Way too many time zones." One more page to do and I'm done. This one may be the most challenging, as there's not much to use for illustration -- basically it's going to be an explanation of why I got a sabbatical in the first place, and so on. I've promised myself that I'll finish it before I go to bed, so I can put all the supplies away.

 Put it with the scrapbooks of my other vacations, of course. Then pull them out from time to time and go, "Oh yeah, I remember when we did that!"

Dunno how popular scrapbooking is anywhere else in the world...but here in the US, people of a certain demographic (usually suburban moms ;) ) are often into it. It's allegedly better than leaving all your pictures in a jumble in some box, especially for people who come along later and go, "Hmm, who's this in this picture with Aunt Myrna? And when was it taken?" Some people take it to extremes and scrapbook, for instance, everything that ever happens to their little darling kid. I decided when I got into it that I would limit myself to doing only vacation scrapbooks. (So yes, the rest of my pictures are in a jumble in some box. )

Now apparently they've got digital scrapbooking programs, where you don't even have to get prints made -- you just drop your digital pictures onto the page and write what it's all about, and then print it and stick it in the album. Or maybe just save it as a digital album, I'm not sure. Anyway, I haven't gotten to that stage yet -- I'm still doing things the old-fashioned way, by cutting the paper manually and so on. It's kind of fun. Keeps me out of trouble, anyhow. ;)
