But that was already the second move, wasn't it? 'Cause there was a temporary one inbetween IIRC.

It's cause all you were doing was moving.

Ali...well...as MM says, guarantees are all very well...but it's the getting that makes it so.

Interview can't hurt I suppose. And you can always tell them you can't start for 2 months after you go back. That way you can work a month, then give a month's notice. (If that's how y'all do it.) So it wouldn't necessarily appear as though you'd been looking on your time off.

And in the end, if your boss is decent, he should understand that you have to look out for yourself first. Make it clear it's not because you're unhappy...just that you want to improve yourself or something. ;)

In today's economy I would be very suspicious of a "guaranteed job" :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!:

No harm in interviewing, but please be very careful. make sure the job actually exists, and that it is a permanent job rather than a temp job, gives benefits at least as good as the ones you already have, etc.

Yesterday I finally heard from UM about my appointment for the second sleep study and being fitted for a CPAP device. I am very relieved, as they gave me the diagnosis and then left me hanging there for a while. Not until the middle of April, but at least I know there is only two months left of living in physical and mental molasses! Might be sooner if there is a cancellation.

Hoping it's sooner rather than later for your treatment, Duchess!

Me too, Duchess! Fingers crossed for a cancellation very soon....

Thanks for the input, guys, I do appreciate it. I think I will go out for the interview, and yeah, Av, I'm thinking along the lines that you've suggested -- offer to start June 1, which gives me 6 weeks after I come back from sabbatical to talk about how Batty and her girlfriend aren't doing so well financially out there and I'm starting to think they need a backstop...and then come up with the job and give my two weeks' notice.

And you betcha, Duchess, I ain't leaving my current gig to do temp work in Denver. It'll be a real job with real benefits, with a real company, or I'm not going. 8)

The bit about how she can guarantee me a job came after she looked at my resume and heard what my scores were on their placement tests (Word, grammar, and typing speed). Candidates with ten years of experience at the same firm and 90% scores on the grammar test don't come along every day, apparently. (I was mad at myself for not getting a perfect score on the grammar test...) I screwed up all the questions about mail merge in Word because I never use that feature. I only ever used it once a year, for Christmas cards, and now the firm sends e-cards so I don't use it at all now.

Yeah, not many people are granted a sabbatical, and I hope you enjoy every single minute of yours! :sky: :sky: :sky: :sky: :sky:

Thanks!

Next week, housecleaning, urgh. And car crap. Needs an inspection, which it will likely flunk because of the cracked windshield (even tho the crack is below my line of sight), so then I'll get to have the windshield replaced and get another inspection. Somewhere in there, I need to have them look at the driver's side window controls, as they were subject to a recall recently (I have a 2008 Honda Fit...), and get new windshield wiper blades, *and* ask them to figure out how come the wiper fluid line freezes every time it's below freezing outside. (I suspect some idiot -- *not* me! -- put plain water in the wiper fluid reservoir....)

So it's not all fun and games here. ;)

Day one of a four day weekend. This is pure sweetness. Not much planned other than resting, and my hub and I will go to a Plymouth Whalers OHL hockey game tomorrow night (and to dinner) with a large group of friends. 8) Maybe I will go to the dollar movies at some point if there is anything good playing. :)

Actually we'll be going out to dinner twice tomorrow.   Once to the brewpub at the rink with about 14 or so other people (it might be as many as twenty - one couple has people in from out of town and they have not made up their minds yet) before the game. And then after the game, to the best Chinese restaurant we know of anywhere, which is in Canton, which neighbors Plymouth where the rink is located. If we are not able to eat, we will pickup take out food at the Chinese restaurant, and eat it the next day. 8)

Cute story about the brewpub:
Detroit Red Wings Captain Nicky Lidstrom has four sons who all play hockey in leagues at that rink. On the rare occasions when he can go see his boys practice or play (he has an awful travel schedule, so cannot be there as often as he would like to be) he hangs out in the brewpub, which overlooks the ice. No one bothers him, as everyone knows he is there on family time. On the rare occasions when someone who does not know better does want to bother him, the restaurant staff intervenes so he can have his private family time (as they should).

One of my friends was there one day when Lidstrom was there. He saw a little boy at another table staring at the Captain with awe and hero worship in his eyes. The waitress finally could not take the little guy's pleading anymore, and went over and asked the Captain if the little boy could have an autograph. My friend said Lidstrom craned his neck, saw the little boy, and then gestured to the kid. He had the kid come over and sit at his table and talked to him until practice was over.

Lidstrom is 100% class.

Neat story. Yeah, Lidstrom sounds like a good guy. :)
I trust your dinner get-together went well?

Last night fog rolled in, so I went out to snap some pictures.
Woke up this morning to the sight of frost on trees, so I hurried out to take more pics.
Wish we had an accurate predictor of frost. And I wish it would always show up on weekends, not during the week when I'm stuck at work, heh.

Yes, we had a good dinner with our friends and then had a lot of fun at the game. Turned out to be more than twenty, and the Whalers won the game over the Sault Ste. Marie greyhounds 3-0. 8)

Had a really peaceful four day weekend, with a lot of greatly needed rest. :heaven:
