Condolences and safe travels, Cleburne.

MW: My Czech-English dictionary is at home, but rest assured I'll be attempting a translation later tonight. ;) And yeah, it's kind of fun. It's a miserable language to learn, but the people there are nice.

Now for some good news: The sabbatical program has been reinstated, so I'll be getting my two months' paid leave next year, after all. :sky:

Well, it was yesterday, but I've officially shaved my mohawk back in, and gone to work with it. :D

Cleburne: Why Czech? Many's the time I have asked myself the same question. My grandparents were from Czechoslovakia and we still have relatives in the Czech Republic, and I have this goofy idea that someday I'll go there and be able to say something to them other than "Jak se mate?" (i.e., how are you?). So far, I'm really good with the dictionary....

I was actually going to go to the Czech Republic during my sabbatical, but now that the thing was in limbo for so long, I don't know that I have enough time to plan the trip properly. :( OTOH, I discovered that there's a hiking trail from Vienna to Prague -- no, wait! -- and a tour company that organizes excursions along the trail. You don't have to hike the whole thing! They pick you up from your hotel in the morning, drive you to the day's trailhead by bus, bring lunch to the lunch spot, and pick you up at the end of the hike and drive you back to your hotel. Seems pretty civilized to me. They only run the tours twice a year, June and September, and my sabbatical will likely be in March and April, so I'll have to use regular leave to do that trek at some point.

That sounds like my kind of hike, too. And it goes from Vienna to Prague! Oh my. Vienna is a city I'd love to see before I shuffle off this mortal coil. Old Europe and all that.

I just spent a few minutes sending Hyperception (my husband's Watch handle) a message from Santa...

You can view it for yourself .

Close enough to walk, but not so close as to affect access to my own house...

Menolly: Speaking of mohawks.... ;) Best wishes for that family in their new home.

MW and Duchess: I know, classical music in Vienna! Prague is also no slouch when it comes to classical concerts. Plus getting to see the Alps...and an extra day or two tacked on at the end for a spa visit in Karlovy Vary.... :wee:
