Yah, a happy 4th of July to our American colleagues! (I envy their fireworks.)

Fingers crossed for you, Av!

Saw some fireworks from my balcony on the 4th. I'm on the wrong side of the building for the bigger displays in "downtown" Manassas and Manassas Park. But people nearby must buy their own every year, because I can always see some, from multiple locations around our apartment complex. 8)

Yesterday, the most interesting thing I did was to swim a mile (36 laps, 25-yard lanes).

Today...back to work. :| Managed to double-book one of our guys at a Mumbai hotel this morning. I think I've screwed up enough today that they should let me have the rest of the day off. However, I'm pretty sure nobody's going to go for it...

Ha, something must have worked. Looks like I've got the job, just waiting to have it on paper. On the one hand, I'm thrilled...looks like a good place to work, and of course, 7 months without a job is a long time. On the other, been nearly 2 years since I had an office job...not looking forward to resuming the daily grind. :( (Oh damn...I already said all this in the post Menolly quoted.)

Ah well...it is good, and I am glad. :D

As I said over on the Watch, congrats Av.
May you and the new position be a good fit. 8)

Congratulations, Av! :sky: :sky: :sky: Just remember, while working sucks, food and a roof over your head are good.

Yeah, it looks pretty good...small long-running company, pretty relaxed and laid back, jeans and t-shirt kinda place, which is important to me, since I don't do suits and ties. :D Hopefully will have final confirmation by tomorrow.

Just got back to my desk from a reception held at our firm for the "unveiling" of our new Nelson Mandela manuscript exhibit. Back in the early '60s, our firm helped to start the South Africa Legal Services and Legal Education Project, a US organization that supported and helped to fund the Legal Resources Centre, which was (is?) a South African organization that fought against apartheid. In recognition of our firm's work, in 1997 Mandela sent us a copy (one of only 10 in existence, I learned today) of a book containing notes he wrote during his 1963 trial for treason.

The new exhibit is right off the lobby near the main elevator bay. It's a big change from the display at our old building, which was tucked away, around the corner from the receptionists -- if you didn't know it was there you might never find it.

Anyway, it's nice to be reminded, now and then, that I work for a pretty okay law firm. 8)

(Oh -- I put "unveiling" in quotes because nobody actually pulled aside a curtain or anything. We just had speeches. And treats. 8))

That's pretty awesome. The LRC still operates as a human rights organisation in SA. (According to their website though, they, and the SALS, were founded in 1979.)
