OTOH, I've been happy with the cool-ish weather we've had so far this spring/summer. Usually I have to kick the a/c on over Memorial Day weekend (end of May) and leave it on 'til at least mid-September. But even this past weekend, I only had to turn it on for a few hours in the afternoon.

I got a lot done this past weekend (altho I realized this morning that I forgot to make yogurt -- gotta do that tonight). Which is good, because next weekend, Batty, Shara_Lunison and Magickmaker are coming home. Batty and Shara_Lunison will be leaving for Denver in August, and Batty wants to sort through all her stuff that got commingled with Magickmaker's during our last few moves -- and she wants Magickmaker there with her. I guess Shara_Lunison and I will be responsible for the "pointing and laughing" part.

We have also had a cool wet spring, and my garden is very happy.

We got our good computer back today! Yay! They even rigged it up with a ghost drive that will automatically back itself up every morning at 0400.

Work is still horribly busy, though.

It's been an absolutely beautiful weekend - the best weather we've had since the snow melted a couple of months back. It was a tough spring.

So, as I was coming back from the park on the bus today, I was surprised to feel cool air blasting from inside the bus. Wow. That is a new experience. The newest transit buses apparently have air conditioning! Really didn't need it today - I was glad for a warm spring day. But it will be good come the summer heat of July and August. Do other cities already have air-conditioned transit buses and we're just catching up?

I'm not sure; Ann Arbor has been replacing their city bus fleet with busses that take biodiesel fuel - I have not ever ridden on one of the new ones (but I do not remember the old ones as having air conidtioning - in this area heat in the winter is considered a lot more important than AC in the summer).

Oh yeah, buses in the DC area have been air-conditioned forever.

Ah, I see. Our buses have never had it before. I'd been wondering if the new air conditioning was a strategy by the transit system to encourage more people to take the bus.

I agree, heat in winter is more important than AC in summer, but it sure is nice to have. Wonder how much extra it costs to install AC in buses. A fair amount, I imagine, but I guess Winnipeg Transit felt it was worth the expense.

Canada is not Florida.

Florida in the winter is often warmer than Michigan in the summer - and Winnipeg has even more of an extreme climate than we have. (Of course that means that Manitoba can be both hotter in the summer AND colder in the winter than we are. The Great Lakes insulate us from both extremes. )

Yes, out here we can swing from one extreme to the other. I was gonna say that the ocean currents surrounding Florida must also protect it from temperature extremes...but then again, Floridians have to deal with hurricanes. That's something I'm thankful I don't have to face.

I'm thinking Wpg Transit must have been real cheapskates in not implementing AC all these years. That or they thought Winnipeggers wouldn't approve. Hey, I'm happy with it!

It's possible they had to pay extra to have the a/c taken out of the buses for all these years, and finally decided it was no longer worth the expense.

Either that or they're preparing for global warming.

Well, locally it's pretty darn warm now. But that's all right, it prepares me for Folkfest coming up in 3 weeks. Speaking of which, I bought my festival pass yesterday.

I do hope, however, that Wpg Transit will reserve some of those air-conditioned buses for the shuttle service to the festival. Not that I'm saying I should be entitled to them, but since I'll be paying double the regular fare for the service, why not, eh?

Yeah, we've had this sudden unwelcome influx of hot humid weather come up from the Gulf Coast - and summer has just hit with a vengeance. It might hit ninety (with attendant humidity) for the rest of the week. YUCK!!!
