We got our first snow fall of the winter , its a bit early for us . minus 4 degrees

as I type it is a beautiful sunny day, about ten degrees below freezing - which is actually a bit of a warm up over the last couple of days

A couple of minor extremes the last 2 days. Yesterday it was around 35C / 95F - my son played soccer in it (I was hot enough just standing in it ). Today a big front has come through and the temperature has plummeted, and the rain is falling. It's down to about 15C now...

Hope your son (and the other kids) had plenty of water on a hot day like that, Stevie. A 20-degree shift is dramatic, but 15C sounds nice to me -- today should've been soccer day! Though with the rain, I guess you would've had a lot of muddy kids.

I brought extra drinks for him. It's amazing though, 6 year olds just keep running! In summer they play Futsal, which is soccer on the hockey grounds (astroturf) so it gets watered before the game, so rain only inconveniences the parents watching

We finally got snow to stick on the ground. First time this winter the snow stuck. We got brushed by the edge of the nor-easter that is nuking the east coast with snow. The mountains in the Virginias supposedly got two feet, Washington DC one foot, parts of Long Island up to three feet - we got about an inch.

Not complaining.

Weird winter when warm southern places like Houston and Atlanta get more snow than Detroit! Hope this keeps up.

Tomorrow we might get as much as three inches of blowing snow - our heaviest snowfall of a very mild (thus far) winter. We got an inch tonight, just enough to make the roads a bit slick. They usually do not even bother to send out the road crews for such a small bit of snow, and so it can get compacted down by cars into ice.

It's 18 degrees out. That's cold enough for me!

I've put off learning to drive for years now, but if I do go ahead, I've heard that it's better to learn driving in winter because the tougher conditions force you to be a better driver.

That must be the "tough love" driving school.... It's like any other skill -- you can learn it, but if you don't use it often, you lose it. That drive up 81 was quite the refresher for me... 8O

Two new cars ago, I made a point of test driving cars in an ice storm. That way I knew how they would handle on the worst possible roads. That is how I got my old Dodge Intrepid. That was a great snow car.

I'm paranoid about driving in the wet, let alone snow

I think I'd panic if anyone drove in the snow - but I'm sure that's just me not knowing...

I hate driving in snow especially when it is as deep or deeper than your car is above the ground. I hate the noises it makes when it drags against the bottom of your car. Like chalk squeaking on a blackboard [/shudder].

Yeah -- such a pleasant sound... Urk.

StevieG, many of the residents of the mid-Atlantic states share your sentiments. Sometimes even rain freaks people out around here....
