this has got to be one of the downright strangest, weirdest, and worst nights I've had here at more than twenty years of working here :shock:

(here meaning my employer, not the Hangar

)

So the Pope has arriveed here in Sydney for World Youth Day (actually a week long series of events) and the transport system has already reached a fairly critical stage. I work for the railways and we are moving 85% of the pilgrims this week, on top of the normal commuter traffic, and we can't cope. Simple as that. not enough trains buses or staff. Huge pressure to do unlimited overtime which is just plain unsafe - you'll have drivers and guards who are bone tired in charge of thousands of passengers...
Forgive my little rant, but I needed it!
I'm on my ninth straight day of work, with four to go, two days off, then another thirteen day fortnight!

I am sad to have to tell you all that my mother died yesterday. She was 85 years old and went peacefully with her family around her.

May she have safe passage MsMary! Dang I'm hearing this all the time with a bunch of people, famous and not so, dying, recently, in their 85s, 86s. In 16 days my Dad turns 87...he sounded very chipper Saturday but his hearing is steadily declining-and he's too cheap to buy a hearing aid. :think:

Thanks, all. I am hanging in there. We had a beautiful funeral service for my mother yesterday. I appreciate the caring thoughts and wishes of my friends here and at the Watch.

Danlo, my mother was doing pretty darn well for an 85-year-old before the past week. She just was struck with an illness that her body couldn't overcome. We are thankful that it was a short illness and that she didn't suffer much at all.

It's been hard, though, cause we did think she had a few more good years in her. She comes from a long-lived family.
