Just to let everyone know that Calibaby and I had a nice long talk with Danlo this afternoon. We also had a nice talk with Lady Tam. I could not remember which cell phone number was whose, so talked with both, and am glad for it, as they both sounded very sad. But they are also both hanging in there. Danlo is expecting to get home on Thursday.

Well, I just got my chuckle for the day. I was making hotel reservations for early May to go down to Indiana and move my son home from the university dorms.

Well, all of the hotels in Muncie are already booked up. I guess I waited too long to make my reservations. Next year I will know to do it earlier.

So the next nearest town with open hotels is Gas City, Indiana. It is about twenty miles away, so not too terrible of a drive.

But what cracked me up is that the hotel is in Gas City and is located on Beaner Blvd.

Things are in a bit of disarray here today.

I was woken up this morning by a huge earth shaking crashing noise. I looked out my bedroom window, saw nothing, so thought everything was probably OK. Got up, was about to eat some breakfast and looked out the window at the back of the house.

A huge oak tree had come down in our backyard and was completely blocking the little side street our driveway opens out into. It had also taken out out one of the cars belonging to the neighbor across the little side street.

The police were already on the scene, shortly followed by two road crews. I talked to them, and they piled up the tree parts in the ditch on the side of the road. I told them we would use the wood for firewood next winter, so they were happy - they only needed to cut the tree up to get it out of the road, and not have to come back with the huge chipper or otherwise haul the wood away.

I am sad to see the tree go - it was a really nice big tree, and it was still alive. There are buds all over the branches.

But we will have plenty of firewood for next winter - and nice long burning hardwood at that. All we have to do is drag it up next to the garage and start a wood pile. And my husband will have to cut up what is left of the trunk in our yard - a good 20-30 foot section, very thick (I could not get my arms around this tree as it was so big).

If my son comes home for Easter weekend I know how he can burn off some of his "freshman fifteen".

I just wish that the neighbors would come home, so that I could talk to them about their broken car. I do not know if it is somethign that their insurance would cover, or if it would be somehting my insurance would cover?

Danlo - I know that today is the service for your mother. I hope that you are doing OK, and that your journey home tomorrow will be a smooth one.

Yeah, it was a great big oak tree, a good four stories tall and so big around I couldn't hug it. We had a lot of strong wind and some snow today (I still cannot believe they managed to play a baseball game in this wind today!!! ) and I am thinking the wind was just too much for the poor old tree to withstand.

I am just glad it did not hit the neighbor's house. It came pretty close!

I am also glad it did not take down any power or phone lines...

We've been dealing with various insurance agents all week over that tree.

They have decided to total out the car from across the street. They have also decided to total out the car that was smashed which had the misfortune to be driving down the road when the tree came down. I did not even know that it had hit a car in the road. By the time I dragged my butt out of bed and went out to see the damage, that car had already been cleared away.

Thank God no one was hurt.

So far all three insurance companies (the two car owners' and ours) have decided that it was an act of God - a huge and living tree came down in a 40MPH wind.

So it does not look like anyone can take us to court for negligence, as the tree was healthy and alive at the time it came down.

And yes- we have had agents from all three companies come out and look at what is left of the tree to verify that.

After twenty years at my current employer, they have finally given us vision and dental insurance this year. Last week I used the vision insurance and had an eye exam and ordered new glasses - today it was the dental. I probably sound nuts to be so happy over a teeth cleaning - but they really needed it!

OK, I am out of here for a few days!

Everyone enjoy Cinco de Mayo and Derby Day this weekend! Kentucky bourbon and Mexican food might be a good combo! Party righteously while I am gone.
