We're having heavy rain tonight and tomorrow - a couple of inches when all is said and done. But no snow!

Off from work the next two days. That will be sweet. I plan on baking all day tomorrow. The kids will be my dish washers in order to get cookies and bread and muffins right out of the oven. ******************************************************

Yesterday we worked opposite shifts, but managed to meet for lunch at the restaurant where we had our first date, way back in 1983. Tomorrow we will have our real anniversary date; leisurely eating a good meal at a nice restaurant that has live jazz playing on Friday nights.

Work has been wiping me out the last 2-3 weeks, busy beyond belief or comprehension. I will be off tomorrow and Saturday, and I really need a lot of sleep to feel a bit less exhausted. Then back to work for New Year's Eve and New Year's . ******************************************************

Hey! We're buried in about 6 inches of snow right now-and couple that with 6 a week ago and it's simply unreal. After years of drought and bad skiing (except in Taos) this is exactly what we need. I do have one question though: do satellite dish owners in the north and east install little heaters to melt the snow???

What am I doing? Reading Runes for my emergency dissection at the Watch, taking naps with Tam and tending to "Shred" the new knickname for Elora Grace who delights in ripping Xmas and packing paper to bits. Reading a Feast for Crows before bed and climbing up on the roof to knock snow off the dish! *****

Danlo, why on Earth do you have to knock the snow off of your dish? We have had one on our roof for five years now in the much snowier (well - other than this year) Michigan winter, and we have never had to do such a thing. Of course, it is mounted on top of a tall pole on the roof, as are the dishes of all of my neighbors...

I slept roughly fourteen hours last night, and will be going out on a nice date tonight. Hopefully another good night's sleep (though not quite so long) tonight and I will be feeling better tomorrow.

Actually, I need to go put on nice clothes (other than my Chicago Blues Festival t-shirt and sweat pants) and throw on a bit of lipstick - my dinner reservations are in an hour. ******************************************************

It must be the poles---here they just mount the dish directly to the roof. Everytime I've knocked the snow off, like I did right now, the feed comes back on. Tam just measured 13 inches just we're probably had 18 including the meltoff...The foothills have two feet and Raton to Clayton has 7 ft drifts. *****

Sounds like a good Michigan storm - and in a winter when we have only gotten an inch and a dusting. Not that I am complaining - I love to play in snow, but hate to shovel it or drive in it.

Yeah, our dish is mounted on a ten foot tall sturdy metal pole, which is in turn mounted on a sturdy metal tripod which is heavily bolted to the roof. All of our neighbors have similar arrangements from the dish installers. Probably why we do not have to knock the snow off of the dish,

I tell you - I must have been running on empty. I got about 14 hours of sleep Thursday night and about 12 hours of sleep last night. I am not sick and I am not having my monthly, so this must be pure exhaustion rather than some other physical cause. I think I am pretty lucky that I did not get sick!!! But the sad thing is that I feel like going up to my room and taking a nap right now. ******************************************************

So then - 14 or so hours of sleep on Thursday night; 12 hours of sleep on Friday night; about 10 hours of sleep on Staurday night; about 10 hours of sleep last night...

No wonder I am feeling a bit more energetic today, even if I am at work. ******************************************************

Thanks guys!

It is trying to snow tonight. I drove home in a winter mix. Do not know if any will manage to stick or not - we had a lot of rain daily since Thursday and the ground is saturated with water...

I finally convinced my hub to go visit his family out in California while his parents are still doing OK both mentally and physically (they are getting up there in years). So he and my younger son will be flying out on Thursady and coming home Tuesday. My older son will be flying out on Friday from Indiana, and getting back to college on Monday.

I will have the house to myself from the time I get home on Thursday night until I go in to work on Tuesday. I have a four day weekend, and I am planiing on lots of self pampering like bubble baths. ******************************************************

Well, I just got home (briefly) from dropping the guys off at the airport. I am going to try for one or two quick errands before work. Then work. Tomorrow I will try to get the rest of my errands done before the weather gets crazy, so I do not need to leave my house. Friday afternoon and Saturday morning I will drag a bunch of firewood inside from the garage and locate the candles and extra blankets. Saturday and Sunday there will supposedly be an ice storm.

Thankfully, my hub has a buddy lined up to come out to the house and wire the heating system to the generator if I lose power from the freezing rain. ******************************************************
