I'm really glad that we only got rain and wind and the rest of that storm went to the west and north of us. I feel really bad for all of the people who lost their power from the ice storm - nearly half a million people in the St. Louis area alone. It is really bad to not have power in the cold and snow of winter!

And after his lessons, my son and I did spend ths afternoon listening to the wind howl like a 747 passing overhead, drinking hot chocolate with marshmallows, and watching Wallace and Gromit and the Were[Rabbit which ruled. <i></i>

Tonight we are finally getting our first real snow of the winter. All of the other times it has snowe so far it immediately melted because the ground was still warm. Tonight it is sticking.

Danlo, I cannot wait to see your pictures. ******************************************************

Today it is as lovely as an early spring day in April. Lovely blue sky, warm enough to go out in a t-shirt rather than a million layers of clothing. The squirrels are out of their nests, running amok through my yard. This has got to be the warmest Decemeber I have ever seen. We got 1-2 inches from that one little snow, that melted after a day or two, then we got a dusting, which also melted.

Notice that I am not complaining.

I had just had a wonderful and restful three day weekend. I am dreading going back into work tonight. And yes, that is most certainly a complaint. ******************************************************

My flu may really be an abcess from part of a tooth that broke of two days ago. So seeing dentist tomorrow and on Sudafed and sleeping in today.

(Good) little changes-switched the orange to silver on the Gen Fantasy index board and it looks awesome! Also put up a new and rather elegant "new message" button in Cthuhlu's Corner. I think it's supposed to be Sherlock Holmes, but I'm not totally sure... *****

It's pouring rain outside today. My mailman just knocked on my door to deliver a package and he looked like a drowned rat.

I am home today instead of at work cause I had a weird fainting episode last night. I feel as though I might have some sort of transient stomach virus, but some of my internet friends are imagining dire things and warning me to see a doctor. I basically just think I have to rest. Guess if I am still feeling lousy Monday, I will call the doctor. "Does the walker choose the path, or the path the walker?"<i></i>

I hope you feel better soon!

Last winter (Feb. of this year) there was a virus going around that usually hits cruise ships. They had to shut down a bunch of restaurants in the area because this thing (Norwalk virus) was making so many people so sick. My younger son got it first, then my hub and older son, and then I got it. I had vomiting and diarrhea so bad that I fainted for the first time in my adult life. I was coming out of the bathroom for what felt like the thousandth time that night, and down on the floor I went. Calibaby heard me fall, scraped me off the floor, and I had to go right back into the bathroom.

Intellectually I have known for untold years that people can die from diarrhea.

That was the first time I ever really knew it, though.

I wonder if you might have had something like that? If so, hopefully it will only get you for a day or so, and then you will feel much better!

Work was very stressful this week, but things are happy. My younger son and I pulled an almost all nighter last night, watching the meteor shower and hoping to see the northern lights (which we did not see). It was so freakishly warm that we could sit outside in sweaters and drink lots of hot chocolate and still be warm. My older son is home for three weeks starting this afternoon. My husband's business has really picked up in the last few weeks, which is a great sign that the economy in this area might finally be picking up a little bit!

Tomorrow we will go visit the old Dodge family mansion, up in Rochester, called Meadowbrook. The holiday decorations up there are supposed to be very beautiful. ******************************************************

I was wondering on Friday if I might have a very mild version of that -it's called norovirus, and it's supposed to be very common. I was reading in the paper that it's going around health care facilities in south Florida, not just the cruise ships.

But I feel fine today, so hopefully whatever was wrong has resolved. "Does the walker choose the path, or the path the walker?"<i></i>

I hope so, too! Working in hospitals can be bad sometimes...the workers get exposed to every easy-to-catch germ going around in the local community! ******************************************************

No snow here, and no chance of it before Christmas.

Weirdest winter I have ever seen - mostly warm (relatively so for Michigan) and a lot of sunny days.

This is like a southern California winter - not a Michigan winter. We are used to snow, cold, cloud cover for months on end, and heavy winter coats. What is this crap with the sun being out???

Things are going well here, though I am a bit tired. It has been very busy at work the last week or so. I am looking forward to having Friday and Saturday off. I will do a lot of yummy baking. I will be working both "eves" and both Christmas and New Year's this year, and am still trying to figure out how to work the holiday meals. ******************************************************

I think I figured it out while taking my long hot shower:

Friday: homemade pizza
Saturday: Mexican buffet (tacos, burritos, quesadillas, etc.)
Sunday (Christmas Eve) - huge brunch with lots of sparkling grape juice (Calibaby can worry about dinner later that night while I am at work)
Monday (Christmas) - large traditional dinner served early, before I go to work (more like a late large lunch)
New Year's Eve - huge brunch (Calibaby can worry about dinner while I am at work)
New Year's Day - make your own sub sandwich buffet with all the fixin's and lots of snacks (Football game fare) - people can nibble all day and no one has to worry about dinner while I am at work

Now I can go grocery shopping on Friday with the first holiday weekend planned out.

now the damm "find communities thing is in another annoying place!

We had 4 inches in total with a nice dusting this morning. It's snowing lightly right now. Little 17 month old Elora Grace was absolutely amazed! The airport was closed for the first time anyone can remember and we could get 3 more inches by the weekend. Cuba and Chama NM got 8 inches. It was fun going up on the roof at 7pm to sweep the snow off the satellite dish and readjust the xmas lights that were blown up over the edge of the roof. Now I'm ready to curl up with "Feast" and go back to bed.
