There was a discussion at a livejournal site about how some published(!!!) authors cannot keep things like character traits or plot elements straight from book to book in a series (Laurell K. Hamilton is probably the Queen of this - with her own acronym - YAABI - yet another Anita Blake Inconsistency - named by fed up fans) or even within a single book. A great tool was brought up: You can use it as a mini personal private wiki for your own work! |

Hmmm...it's sad that there are well-published authors who don't seem to care about maintaining the internal consistency of their works. The frustration of their readers is completely understandable. By contrast, a writer like Donaldson is very meticulous about keeping details straight in his stories. He has said on his website that he keeps copious notes that he always refers back to when he's working on a project. It's a great credit to him that there are very few errors of continuity in a saga as complex as the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant. |
