It is very common idea that the sequels to a some original movies are always inferior to the originals, but is it always the case maay be not?

Examples that are contrary to this generally accepted rule. Terminator II is very probably a better film than the original. Star Trek - the Wrath of Kahn generally accepted as better than Star Trek the movie. Star Wars - The empire strikes back is way better than Star Wars 1978. Godfather II is a better movie than The Godfather.

Are these examples just the rare exceptions that have no beaaring on the geneerally accepted rule. And is it wrong to include the SW and ST series in these comparisons? Allan Rosewarne

Another example where I thought the sequel was better was the two Spiderman movies. I thought the first was very good, but the second one was even better.

I don't see why Star Trek and Star Wars cannot be included?

I think that the sequels which fall apart are the ones where there is not a compelling story to tell -- where something is made quickly and cheaply to make the movie studio a few quick bucks to cash in on the popularity of the original. A lot of the horror movie franchises (Jason, Freddy, etc.) seem to be of this type. And may the best wrestler win!<i></i>

I watched Batman Begins last night, and I thought it to be much much better than the earlier Batman films. I'm not sure if you could call it a sequel, though, as much as an entirely new beginning? ******************************************************
