This news really sucks.
"Gene" McCarthy died today, I heard it on NPR just now. Served in Congress from 1949 -1959 and the US Senate 1959-1971. Graduate from St. John's College, Minn and the University of Minnesota, and he served in WWII as a civilian assistant to the Military Intelligence Division of the War Dept.
Ran for Democratic candidacy to US President in 1968, 1972 and 1992. Ran for US Senate in 1990.
