Well, halfway through so far... ...many of the reviews were/are viscous, but so far it is not as bad as I was expecting from the reviews. It is a cross between Plains of Passage in that it has nearly been all travel, and Shelters of Stone as in it is about Ayla's training as an acolyte. She has been traveling around France for about five years thus far, visiting various sacred places and being trained by the First. No sign of a plot so far. At least some of the constant repetition that drove me crazy in Shelters of Stone has been toned down... Though it could have still used a good editing. |

I have made it to Part III of three parts. Part I is traveling around visiting sacred caves near where they live. (You might be glad to know Jonadalar had to make his stream in one of them. I thought it was TMI personally. ) Part II is traveling further away to visit (and revisit) more sacred caves. (Wolf pooped in one. I thought that was TMI, too. ) If I have to read the Mother Song one more time I might throw up. I am not sure what Part III will be about yet, but it seems to be set more at home and environs again. In the first part, Ayla's daughter is just a baby. Lots more biological spill action. In Part II she is about pre-school age and she sounds like a delightful child, intelligent and brave from the bit we see of her. Sound like she is about six in Part III. Wish we could see a lot more of her, maybe in this part of the book. Menolly - the book is long - several hundred pages - but it goes quickly - especially when you skim the Mother Song. |

I wish I had found this as I was reading the book. Actually being able to see the images rather than just reading about them is much more meaningful: |

Ooo, thanks Duchess! I haven't read what you spoilered above, since I don't have the book yet, but I'll return to this thread for that link when I begin reading. |
